That was pretty much my response, too. The Catholics have come a long way since that whole Galileo affair. Of course, as a pagan, I don't particularly like being lumped in with them. Hell, we have a hard enmough time with the McWicca crowd who get all their ritual attire at Hot Topic and their books with little cresecents on the spine. Plus it's kind of amusing since pagans, both in aintiquity and now, were rarely literalists when it came to mythology. But whatever.

Its very amusing.
Yes, not literalists...though we do seem to have our share of modern mythological literalists in Hellenism today...

It is very interesting to see how far the Church has come. Though, even before Galileo was officially rehabilitated, Church Astronomers were using his techniques and theories, and many churches were built with observatory elements.

Yes. For instance someone posted today wanting to know how old Kore and Haides were when they eloped.

Small world. I came across this gentleman while at the World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow last August.

I liked him better when he was talking about his struggle with the Jesuit creed of poverty vs. his bibliophilia - when you are allowed to only have ONE modestly sized bookshelf, how on earth do you manage to confine your book ownership to that small a space? How do you choose what goes to make room for new books? It can only get harder as time passes. . . .

He seemed a decent and funny guy. It's a shame that he has the habit of using the term "pagan" in a way that doesn't acknowledge it as an independent form of spirituality whose followers deserve the same respect he would like extended to him by followers of Judaism, Islam and other "real" religions.

Oh, i feel his pain! That's one austerity I don't think I could pull off. No riches. Fine. No fancy foods or drinks or clothes. Piece of cake. No sex ... hmm ... that might be hard, but okay. No books??? Hell no!

Shame he's got a funky notion of pagan though.
